IIPA 2009 Special Report on Brazil

February 17, 2009 – IIPA recommends that Brazil remain on the Watch List in 2009. Brazil is one of the largest commercial markets for legitimate copyrighted materials in the Western Hemisphere, and the Government has manifested in most cases a clear appreciation of the importance of protecting intellectual property that is greatly appreciated by IIPA members.

IIPA 2006 Special Report on Brazil

February 13, 2006 – IIPA recommends that Brazil be removed from the Priority Watch List and placed on the Special 301 Watch List in 2006, and that an out-of-cycle-review be conducted later in 2006 to evaluate progress and results achieved on copyright piracy and enforcement under the Bilateral Consultative Mechanism.

IIPA 2004 Special Report on Brazil

February 13, 2004 – IIPA recommends that Brazil remain on the Special 301 Priority Watch List in 2003. Brazil continues to fail to provide “adequate and effective protection” for U.S. copyrights as required by the GSP trade program; the potential penalty facing Brazil is the loss of its GSP benefits and/or the suspension of its GSP beneficiary country status.

February 14, 2003 – IIPA recommends that Brazil remain on the Special 301 Priority Watch List in 2003. High levels of copyright piracy, compounded by inadequate criminal enforcement throughout the Brazilian system, indicate that Brazil fails to provide adequate and effective copyright protection to U.S. copyright owners.
